Discover Kennebunkport’s gardens
We invite you to take a meandering stroll with us along the gardens of Kennebunkport’s historic homes. This neighborhood is such a pleasure to view with your green thumbed guide. Learn about gardens of the past and present with local stories and some Maine wisdom thrown in while discussing all sorts of botanicals, plants, flowers, shrubs and trees. There will be gardening fun facts and tips to take home with you.
You will enjoy public gardens maintained by the all volunteer Seacoast Garden Club as well as private gardens and hardscapes meticulously cared for by their owners.
We will walk by notable homes dating back to 1789 and the early 1800’s, sharing stories of former residents, pointing out a colonial “kitchen garden” and trees planted after the Dutch Elm disease wiped out the elms. We will finish with a visit to “Ganny’s Garden” fashioned after a needlepoint carpet created by the late First Lady, Barbara Bush and dedicated to her as a surprise by her family and friends.
Your local guides are home gardeners sharing their passion for plants, and eager to share a wealth of information on their home town.
We will begin and end in Dock Square and walk approximately 2 miles over 1.5 to 2 hours on flat terrain. There are benches to sit for a spell along the route and a garden gift for all as we finish.
Dogs are allowed if well behaved and on a leash.
This tour is entirely outside and we will seek shade during hot days wherever possible.
